Economic Development- September 2024 Update:
Rural Entrepreneurial Ventures (REV):
The August meeting was held on Tuesday the 20th. The team applied to and has been awarded the entire $20,000 through SMIF’s “Activating our Entrepreneurial Ecosystem” grant. Grant will go towards paying for an increased CEDA contract for 8 hours/month dedicated to entrepreneurial outreach, having CEDA create a business toolkit based on feedback received during the outreach program and the remainder of the funds will be used to establish a technical assistance fund to help offset costs of trainings, business services, and program access, etc. for local entrepreneurs.
Ongoing projects:
- Daycare workshops scheduled for Tuesday, September 17th and Wednesday, September 18th. These workshops are facilitated by Jeff Andrews and his team at the Business of Childcare. The workshops seek to bring people together to identify issues/solutions to the current child care need in Plainview and the surrounding region. Jeff’s team will provide an action plan after the workshops to help identify a path forward.
- County Rd. 4 commercial/light industrial park- waiting to see if the county will be annexing the right away along Co. Rd. 4. If it’s annexed, we can start the Greater MN BDPI grant application through DEED to help cover the cost of running water/sewer into the site.
- Working with Ag Partners to remediate their contaminated commercial sites.
- REV Grant application for business outreach, toolkit and technical assistance fund.
- Continued business visits.
